PART-TIME DIRECTOR OF STUDENT MINISTRY POMONA PRESBYTERIAN

SUBJECT: Job Description – Part-Time Student Ministries Director (Exempt) 20-25 hours a week

Principal Function:

To provide spiritual leadership for students in grades 6th through 12th to see that they and their families become devoted followers of Christ through worship, discipleship, mission, retreats and outreach.

Position qualifications: Passionate about Christ, dedicated to the local church and is experienced with students with different backgrounds and has the skill set for working in an urban multicultural ministry setting, experienced working with women and men in a team environment, able to train and equip volunteers for ministry, significant organizational and supervisory skills, able to model a Christ-likeness to students and families.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Plan, staff and implement a full range of ministry to students, 6th through 12th grade, directing them to become followers of Jesus.

  2. Communicate effectively with students, families, volunteers, Pastor, and Office Manager, using all resources available (in person, email, social media, bulletin, website, and text) to connect, update and promote high level of collaboration.

  3. Recruit, nurture and equip volunteer staff.

  4. Build relationships with middle school and high school students at Pomona Hope and those not connected to a church.

  5. Work with the Pastor to develop strategies that reach out to students, parents and families and help connect to the church.

  6. Prepare and oversee annual budget for Student Ministries department.

  7. Evaluate and assess supplies, materials, and equipment needed for student ministries.

  8. Participate in staff team meetings, on retreats and in other meetings as requested.

  9. Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all student ministry settings.

  10. Work under the supervision of Pastor. Other duties as assigned by Pastor.

Special Skills and Gifts:

Ability to teach, plan, encourage, help, lead, and shepherd, to keep confidences. Live by biblical principles. Has demonstrated an ability to lead people towards Christ. Has an ability to develop healthy relationships with students and adults. Feels a call to student ministry, be of good character, honest, humble, and wiling to make a time commitment necessary to be effective in this ministry.

Bilingual Spanish and English helpful but not required.

COMPENSATION

$20,000 a year plus seminary education

Housing may be available depending on circumstances.
